About the event

Friday, May 3 from 6:30 - 9 pm

About 90 minutes away from Brunswick, nestled near a river in Massachusetts, is an extraordinary piece of Jungian history called “The Tower on the Marsh,” the once-home and work of art by Christiana Morgan. Morgan was an early analysand and then acolyte of Jung’s. She was also a femme inspiratrice for him, and the subject of his Vision Seminars. In her own right, Morgan was an American pioneer of psychology, the co-author of one of the only psychology tests to engage with the unconscious, and as a co-founder of the Harvard Psychological Clinic, also a mentor to many future authors and thought leaders. Born in 1897, however, Morgan was a woman of her time: despite her brilliance and remarkable achievements, her work has yet to receive the recognition it deserves.

In this lecture, Satya will explore a wide range of topics related to Christiana Morgan, including her robust active imagination about which Jung spoke in the Vision Seminars, and some of the original art work that is still housed at her former home in Massachusetts. We’ll speak too about the state of her Tower and attempts to restore it and protect it for the future, all while taking a glimpse into some of her unpublished journals, as well as never-before-seen notes from her analysis with Jung. With threads that lead from Jung’s inner circle to Ted Kazinski, the Unabomber, it all makes for a remarkably good story. Christiana Morgan’s granddaughter, and filmmaker, Hilary Morgan, will be in attendance.
