Are we immersed in a catastrophe? Drawing on Jung's psychological exegesis of the Book of Revelation, this talk takes seriously his terrifyingly prescient account of the collapse of materialist culture. For Jung, the apocalyptic imagery of Revelation was never merely a prediction of external events but a symbolic portrait of what happens when a civilization's conscious values grow too one-sided and the repressed contents of the psyche come flooding back. Read this way, the collapse we sense around us is not simply political or economic but psychological and spiritual, the return of everything a materialist age has refused to acknowledge.
